I just called my local welding supply for a beer gas mixture and tank and they quoted me $50.00 for the 20lb tank and $30.00 for the beer gas mixture. They are local and on my way home from work. So is this a good deal or not?

I'm thinking "YES"

Why a mixture? Unless your dispensing a stout through a stout faucet, regular ole co2 will work.

Either way, still a good deal, as long as the $50 is a deposit and not a fee you pay each time you fill.

Purchasing a full 20# tank around here $197, Home Depot / PraxAir. Fills are $17 with exchange. That of course is only co2.

Paid $80 for my 20#, including shipping.

$50.00 is the purchase price on a reconditioned tank. I am ok with that as the recon is just as good as the new. I will be picking it up today, so I will snap a few pics and post later.

Now I just have to wait for the Stout to be ready for consumption.

Picked up the tank and it was filled with 75% Nitrogen / 25% CO2 as requested.

I think I like it.

A 20 lb. tank will carb and dispense a lot of kegs. How will that mixture work for future non stout ales?

I have heard you can use it, but I don't have any direct experience with it. My intention is to switch the mixtures at some point. The beer gas will go into my 5lb tank and my 20lb tank will contain only CO2. It may be some time as you say before that point hits unless someone here can provide some input on Beer Gas usage for regular beer.
