I brewed an imperial IPA on 5/7, racked on 5/23. I tasted it this morning and am pretty satisfied but would like a little stronger hop character. Is it to late to dry hop? I have never done this before. How long do the hops need to be in there? I was planning on bottling this week.

Sent that prematurely. Like he said above me, it will mostly add aroma. You just need like 3-5 days more for the hops to sit. It really helps with a good IPA/IIPA

5/7 until now... I bet that's torture to wait and drink!

Let us know how the final product comes out.

Also, once carbonated, the hop characteristic will change a bit!

Taste and smell are all wrapped up together. Dry hopping will certainly make a difference in how you perceive the hop taste.

And no, it isn't too late to dry hop. It is a critical aspect of most american IPA's and IIPA's, so I would definitely do it.

The closer you dry hop to bottling time, the more you retain the hop aroma oils. Six days is enough to get good extraction.

As to too late, I keg and I've added hops to a half-empty keg.

I didnt know you could even make a good imperial IPA WITHOUT dry hopping it. I would definitely dry hop it for about a week to add aroma which will also help in the perceived taste as others have mentioned.
