I would say it's fine. Move it to secondary for a few weeks to clean up and u should b good. .002 I wouldn't call way off. .02 I call a little off. (I guess somewhere between but u get the idea) You made beer! If its good drink it if it's bad clear the space to make more. RAHAHB or DIICMM. what I have been doing is if it's bad, dump it I can make more. Or make vinegar out of it. I've started doing that too.

My estimates FG was 1.014.

Looks good to me. What yeast did you use? Something similar happens to me when I use Wyeast 1272 - American II.

I get the same thing with 1056 and sometimes BRY-97. Leave it be for a little longer then cold crash it and it will all drop out.

US-05 does that for me all the time, both hang around the top and attenuate really well.. might make the beer a little drier than you hope, but should still be good.. from what I've experienced, it usually takes about 3 weeks for the yeast to drop.. Overall, it looks good...

enjoy :mug:

I've recently moved from what I consider the mecca of brewing (Athens, GA). In Athens I had my pick of 2 - 3 brew shops and any number of experts to rely on for advice, all of which were eager to help. Where I live now only has one shop and the owner treats me like a complete moron and never shuts up about how he won't drink anything that isn't barleywine anymore. Admittedly, I am a novice, only having brewed about 30 gallons of beer so far. But when I walk into an establishment I don't like being patronized and told that I should just stick with the pre-made kits. (Yes, he tells me this every time.)

So since I hate going to the local shop, is there hope for me? Is there anywhere online that can get fresh ingredients to me quickly?

Thats why I asked about whirlfloc..it looks like what happens to my break material when I use it.

What temperature was the beer at when you measured the gravity.

What temperature is the hydrometer calibrated at.

I would check the gravity in a test jar at the correct temperature. That way you will get usable data from the time taken to do a gravity reading.

The image you posted is hard to read as
1. Bubbles around the hydrometer obscure
2. Impossible to judge where the bottom of the meniscus is.

My guess is that if you take a sample and cool it and the hydrometer to the calibration temperature, lose the bubbles and get a reading at eye level you will get a more reasonable a likely figure for your FG.

I still expect it will be lower that 1.014. ~1.008 would be my guess.

That's why I like my local shop. I can walk in, I have free reign to their grain room or I can buy a kit. They also understand I'm on a budget. Whether I come in for a 50 cent grommet or a $50 brew I get treated the same.

I think they have flat rate shipping on online orders. Check them out. www.norcalbrewingsolutions.com

So your FG is low, not your SG/OG. You should have finished at 1.014 and you're down at 1.002 you say. Have you tasted a sample yet? How long has it been fermenting?

Not yet. It's been going 12 days. I might try it tonight. I have a hard time telling when flat and warm though.

If the gravity came out that low, I'm almost wondering if infected. You'll know if it's infected real quick with a sample.

Tried a little today. It's not bad. Can kinda taste the alcohol a bit but it's gonna end up at like 6.8% so that's understandable.

Also all that stuff on top is settling out more.

I think it may have just been Wirlfloc reacting with lemon peel or yeast nutrient.
