danyP back on track with this one - ******* on-point. crazy levels of sweaty-ass, cheesy jock strap funk with a pleasant underlying tartness, just the right kiss of acidity in the finish. lovely saison. bravo, danyP, bravo.

This bottle was immensely different than the one I opened up a few weeks ago. Way less lemon lime, way more funk.

looking for some consumer tome reports on new batch of dalmatienne
(other than Dunt who informed me it was mighty fine)

also interested in hearing thoughts on del rey and coffee ruby. not sure where i read it but i thought i heard that something unique happened in coffee ruby that would make it not possible to reproduce. anyone else read/hear this? or was i day dreaming/making **** up again?

I had a del ray over the weekend and it was fantastic, maybe the best tome I've had next to Extra Sour b1. No detectable truffle but lots of weird exotic fruit. Looking at reviews on rb I assume there must be some serious bottle variation, as my bottle was a real treat and I wouldn't hesitate to grab a couple more given the chance

Del Rey tastes really young at this point. I kind of like the musty earthiness of it, but most of the people I had it with last weekend thought it was terrible. Either way, definitely needs a bit of time to settle down and carbonate a bit more.

the bottle i cracked this weekend was more along the lines of Thorpe429 's experience. definately no bright/fruity/tart. was able to sack up and dome it solo though, so not terrible, to me at least.

Classic tomerisms! Just finished reading a 1 out of 5 review that del rey is the worst beer ever. I can't wait to try it.

As far as I can tell (which is based on etre picture alone) I believe dark.

I've had one bottle of Dalmatienne "light". It was by far the most sour Fantome I've come across. It was completely flat, and tasted like Pinot Grigio. I used it for science.

Del Rey was really odd, tastes like farts and mushrooms. If you don't get truffle/mushroom out of this beer then you probably got a mislabeled bottle or something, there was certainly no subtlety in the bottle I had.

Coffee Ruby is really excellent, one of my favorites of this year. Wish I had more bottles of this.

The new Dalmatienne was really good as well, it's a darker batch. It's definitely young and the hop bitterness is a bit aggressive, but I thought it tasted like a smaller version of last years Noel, though Dany doesn't agree with me. Much different than the last Dalmatienne dark which had a lot more dark fruit flavors.

Im sorry ElkSherpa. Like all tomes, I wanted to love del rey. However, I couldnt get passed all the residual sweetness. It was too much for me, I felt like it was mostly unfermented. I got a little shroomy earthen funk character to it...then cream corn, diaper and cooked cabbage.

Coffee ruby is probably the closest thing to a DIPA that Dany has made. "Very bitter" is spot on for a descriptor but there are nice fruited and pulpy aspects too.

That soccer devil beer is ******* unreal. If you tomesperts remember when classic saison tasted like strawberry and pineapple juice, you will immediately think of those days when drinking this beer. Except this is a lime and grapefruit version.

Edit: adding suppadubs to this because he needs to way in on his experience in this thread. I know he prob wrote a 62 page ciceronni entrance exam on each but im too lazy to keep track of this site and read his. dontdrinkbeer

Odd, the bottle of Coffee Ruby I had wasn't all that bitter, more of a sweet coffee flavor. The Dalmatienne I had was much more bitter.

No offense taken, and sorry the beer was a let down for you. It seems reviews/experiences with this beer are variable, with most noting disappointment. We had two bottles, purchased from Etre Gourmet that were decent albeit a bit on the sweet side. You win some you lose some!

On a side note, Fantome related, I opened a bottle of Noel from the early 2000s a few nights ago. It was pretty fantastic. This series of beers (Noel) has never been something I was very fond of. This particular bottle was really something special. It was pretty heavily oxidized, but I really like oxidized beer.

I'm generally not a Noel fan either but I had a 2008 a couple years ago that was mind blowing

Fantome on sale for $10, I tried to work out if these were old( smoky) bottles but the beer guy was convincing they were new- however he was not convincing on why the markdown......i risked $10 and will report back if I go buy a case or drainpour. I have money on a smoky drainpour- and a $10 refund.
