9lbs - Maris Otter
5oz - English Roasted Barley
3oz - Crystal 90

East Kent Golding @60min ~20Ibus

Irish Ale yeast wlabs/wyeast

This is my first time making an Irish red and im trying not to go overboard with the roasted barley/crystal. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Not to hijack your post, but to hijack your post, could you skip the roasted barley and trade a couple pounds of Maris Otter for some Red X? Should provide you with a lot of red color and biscuity goodness without any added roasted flavors. I'd keep the crystal for flavor, but maybe go with C60 in conjunction with the Red X

Hmm, interesting. Never thought about using red x. So say 6lbs Maris otter 3lbs red x and a bit lower on the crystal. Will the Red x give me the sort of flavor profile you’d expect from an Irish red?
