Brewed an Irish Red a month ago, and just starting to tap into the bottles. (2 weeks in the bottles this past Friday)

Recipe

3 gallon boil
Target OG = 1.050
Target FG = 1.015
60 minute boil

1/2 lb Carapils
1/4 lb Chocolate Malt
1/4 lb Flaked Oats
4 lbs golden light LME (2 lb full boil, 2 lb last 5 mins)

1.5 oz Challenger hops (1 oz for 60 mins, 0.5 oz last 15 mins) Total 24.04 IBU's
1 lb light brown sugar (last 5 mins)
1 pkt Nottingham Ale
1 whirlfloc tablet (last 15 mins)

Actual OG = 1.050
Actual FG = 1.010
ABV = 5.18%

1 week primary (69°)
1 week secondary (70°)
2 weeks bottle conditioned (70°)

Wonderful brew with a great amber color. Wish it were a little more red, but it'll do!

I do have one issue, perhaps someone can weigh in for me. Smells and tastes great, but finishes rather harsh. Heavily bitter a couple seconds after swallowing, but fades quickly. Anyone have some wisdom to offer?

somewhere between 2-4 oz of roasted barley in 5 gallons gives a nice red color.

I'd suggest skipping the 2° next time, too...no real need for this brew.

my Irish Red had 2 oz roasted barley, and 0.5# of special B--had a great red color to it
