IPA's... what's the draw?

I was a lot like "beowolf." I was totally into malty beers and gradually came to appreciate IPA's.

One thing you might try - allow your IPA to warm up a bit before you drink it. Sometimes this really brings out a lot of the subtle flavors.

I first posted this in May and since then I have tried many IPA's. I am still not a "hop head" but I am starting to appreciate the hops! I think I will always enjoy a good malty beer but the hops are winning me over!

I love me some seriously spicy foods, and I love me some seriously hoppy IPA's as well. hmmmm

By the by....yes, I too am crazy for extremely hot foods...tacos slathered with Pure Death sauce...oh yeah... Habanero poppers, even better...

I also love ridiculously spicy foods, and I like myself some pretty hoppy beers. :mug:

I'd be willing to bet there's a correlation there.

About an hour ago, I would have said the same thing about sour beers.

But I'm at the last few sips of my Jolly Pumpkin La Roja, and I'm liking it!

Give it time...

I didn't get it either until I recently bought a 6-er of Bell's Two-Hearted Ale. Not bitter...not sweet...perfect balance and lots of great flavor/aroma. Strong but doesn't taste like it. Just about every other IPA I've had was either cloyingly sweet or too bitter and sometimes tasted strong.

Oh man, if you don't drink IPAs, that only leaves you with porters, stouts, milds, bitters, EPAs, APAs, Dubbels, Tripels, Krieks, ESBs, barleywines, wheats, hefes, pilsners, schwarzbiers, kolschs, dunkels, and lagers! I suppose you could live that way... If you can call that living!

In all seriousness, that's one of the great things about beer: if you find one you don't like, there's still legions of others out there to try and enjoy.
