Ok thanks. Guess this begs a followup question;

After I boil and cool, I strain when transferring to the fermenter. That’s correct or no?

Pretty much an equipment question. If using a hop spider or bags there's no straining needed, but if going "commando" with free-swimming kettle hops then yes, running the wort through a strainer would be a practical method...

Cheers!

Ah ok. I just realized I could put hops in a bag while reading another thread Honestly, never occurred to me lol.

Free swimming hops...love it.

I double strain, big colander, then Fine mesh into carbon. Tedious, especially with a lot of hops. I’d think constraining the hops to a bag would limit the taste?

It's a size thing: given a large enough bag of the proper type for the hops (cones go in muslin bags, pellets go in nylon mesh aka "paint strainer" bags) utilization isn't bad at all, especially if you use tongs to occasionally lift them up to drain. I did that for years before finally springing for a 6"d x 18"h 400 micron ss spider.

Yes, if you pour three ounces of pellets in a quart bag they'll swell up and form a fist size mass that clearly isn't going to do what one wants very well. Pour the same into a five quart bag and you're good to go...

Cheers!
