I'm just about to start working on my kegerator. I am using a Kemore single door fridge (no freezer) as a starting point.

In several of the builds here in the forums I see the Keg sitting on a platform. I'm guessing this is for better airflow in the unit? Any downside to the Keg sitting directly on the bottom?

Usually the platforms are needed to account for compressor humps, or loading.
In that pic the bottom keg needed the plywood "shelf" because otherwise it would fall on the owner's feet.

Beyond that is the matter of strength.
5 gallons in a carboy or keg runs around 50 pounds which might exceed the load capacity of oem shelving, hence the upper shelf in that pic.
A sheet of 3/4" plywood can carry a lot more than that.

This pic shows my twin 17cf top-freezer brew fridges sporting platforms to, again, resolve compressor hump issues...

Cheers!
