I have a question about the wire currently going into the lid (I guess for the LED light). As is, it will be impossible to raise the lid up for a collar. It's a fairly short cable/wire running out the back of the freezer and into the lid. I have the Home Depot Insignia 7cf model. None of the builds I've run across seem to have this wire.

All of the chest freezers I've built keezers from had lid lights, but they were all 120vac switched elements. Which made it easy to extend the external wire - I just cut it and spliced in enough twin-lead copper to fit, didn't even need to pay attention to polarity. You could do the same, just make sure to maintain the original connectivity as the wires could be polarized (as LEDs are)...

Cheers!

I figured out a way to avoid snipping wires. The wires will disconnect. The connector is the Molex style with 4.2mm pin spacing. For a few dollars I picked up some at Radio Shack. No, just kidding. Amazon had them. I think I got the actual Molex brand which seemed to have better reviews.

Long story short. I made an extension out of a few inches of 18 gauge wire. If I want to remove the collar I can plug the lid in the way it was.
