Damn, latest batch has lacto. Think it's the wort chiller. Maybe I can reclassify my American ipa to be an American sour ipa for the local contest?

Just kidding. *sigh* at least I got beer.

What kind of wort chiller?

And yes that's worthy of a reclassification :D (you meant to do that, right?)

I'm no expert, but I think anything about 10ibu or so really puts the hurt on lacto. Maybe its one of the other nasties?

It's an immersion chiller. I Must've just not cleaned it thoroughly enough. I found it on the side of the road in someone's recycle. I thought i'd taken care of it. Guess not.

I had the infection in a previos batch. Same plastic taste on belch. Brew shop said it was lacto. Didn't happen before the wort chiller came into play. Has since.

Putting the chiller in the boil 15 minutes before flame out should kill any nasties on it.

Where do you live that brewing equipment makes it into the recycle bin !!! Time for a road trip !

Yeah, my wife came home and said "I THINK is saw some brewing equipment on the side of the road. "

Turns out the people were moving and just dumped it and some plastic carboys in the recycling. I grabbed it quick. Looks good. The local home brew shop guys was floored. Said he'd built that one and it was $65 normally.

Just watched a video where they put the chiller in during the last 15. I'll probably thoroughly clean, sanitize, and put it in during the boil in the future.
