I've got 5 all-grain batches under my belt over the past 12 months. 2 of them had low to poor carbonation.

my process is 3/4 cup of corn sugar & 16 oz of water. boil 8-10 minutes, cool then put in bottling bucket. siphon beer on top of the priming solution & let it sit for 30 minutes prior to bottling. 5 gallon batches.

the 2 low carb beers were a dry stout & an American pale ale. at 3-4 mos in the bottles the stout improved.the pale has been the bottles right now for 5 weeks.

should I ditch the old formula of 3/4 cup to 16 ounces of water & use a priming calculator? will that make much of a difference?

the low carb is with both capped & swing tops. any help would be appreciated.

Weigh your sugar and use a priming calculator. Once you get consistent volumes and temperatures you can use the same amount every time, unless you're fussy about carbing to style.

Do all bottles have consistently low carb or does it vary from bottle to bottle? In any case a priming calculator won't hurt. The more accurate you can be with any part of the process in brewing, the better.
