I love that area of Chicago. I stayed right in that same area many times, for several weeks at a clip, for work back in the 80's. Any suggestions now would likely be out of date at this point, unfortunately. However, for a greasy spoon breakfast experience you can check out The Billy Goat Tavern, (it was the inspiration for SNL's "cheeseburger cheeseburger" sketches if you're old enough to remember). I think that's still there.

Thanks for the recs. We didn’t really get out to do much yesterday as my wife needed to conserve he energy but we walked around the park, sat by the river and listened to some live music.

And now she’s getting ready for the marathon as I’m packing the room. I guess I’ll save my beers for the airport lol

Carson ribs are really worth the trip. As is there 2 inch double cut pork chop if they still offer it.
