I'm a bit depressed

Well, I'm going to try to go to work today, in two hour increments. Two hours this morning, and then two hours in the late afternoon. Maybe I won't be so cantankerous if I can actually do something!

The pain is much more moderate, so I feel like I can stand it. Wish me luck!

Hope the work today goes/went ok. For my back issue of a few years ago (partially extruded disc), time was a big factor in getting better. So, don't push it too hard. Thoughts and prayers for recovery.

Sounds like it is getting better, but don't push it. I had major back problems in my 30s, but a slow steady exercise program strengthened the muscles enough that it hasn't been a problem for decades. Keeping my weight down also helps. My father, brother, and two of my sisters all had back surgery at one point.

Thanks for the advice and concern. I worked 2.5 hours this morning and then went to the chiropractor. I'm feeling pretty good. Of course, my "working" involved mostly walking around, talking, and drinking coffee. It wasn't exactly stenuous.

The funny thing is that I thought sitting would be the hardest. But it was some of the weird daily things that hurt- like scanning documents through the scanner when finished with them. It's on the left of the computer and it strained me to try to use it. When I go back for the second 2 hour time, I'll sit at a coworker's workspace and use her set up, as her scanner is on the right and I think it'll be totally different.

It's amazing how people see you and don't "see" you. Well, I guess I mean me, not "people. Several sympathetic coworkers told me that they know how I feel, and they have shared stories of their experiences. You know, I've known some of these people for 20 years, and never knew of some of these struggles with pain and back problems. I guess I never looked beyond the friendly smiles and friendly chatter, and I'm feeling really bad about that.

Back problems suck. I had a severe issue 7 years ago that put me out of action for the better part of 8 months. I spent most of that time lying on a floor. Not easy doing work on the floor.

I finally opted for surgery and things have been great since. I'm not saying you should go that route as it can be iffy, but it worked for me.

I hope things get better for you. Once they do, it's extremely important to keep to any maintenance regimen given you by professionals. It makes a world of difference.

Thank you!

I hate to say it, but today is the first day I feel "ok". (knocks on wood)

If I hate to rate my pain today, it's only about a 3 with surges to 6. I'm finally beginning to feel very optimistic about things! My doctor said by next week, I might be able to do a few things like some easy stretching but he'll see me on Wednesday first. No physical therapy or massage or anything like that, and certainly no lifting. But that's such a great start! Bob said I only groaned in my sleep on occasion last night, and I slept quite a bit besides. I made most of the dinner tonight, and even put it in the oven by myself. I can reach many things in the fridge today.

I promise promise promise to take it easy, but boy, this feels good! :ban:

I was just wondering how you are doing? How is work going? How's you back feeling?

I hope you are feeling better!

I went back to work today, and worked 8 hours. To be fair, I didn't work very hard and I stood up and walked around after about 1 PM. I was in pretty rough shape by 4 PM.

The good thing is that I'm not scheduled to work again until April. (I'm retired from the place I'm now a "pool employee").

I'm about 50% better already, and feeling very optimistic that before long I'll be back to my old self. I did babysit my grandson yesterday, but only with Bob's help as I can't pick up up. But I could sit on the floor and sing rousing renditions of Old MacDonald and Itsy Bitsy Spider. It's a great start!

Pool employee? Doodie.....! Glad you're back-ish.

Pool employee? Doodie.....! Glad you're back-ish.

I hate to say this, but................I give up. What's "pool employee? Doodie" mean. Or I hate to ask.

Think of it this way, I got to get free stuff from your house on company time! Oh, wait. Maybe that's part of the "Doodie". :D

That's caddyshack. You're too young I guess???

Well, since I'm quite a bit older than you, I would say that's not the problem. :D

I haven't seen that movie in at least 20 years. I have to rent it again, or maybe the library has it! I could use a good movie, now that I might be able to sit still for two hours!

Ok. This is better... 4 year old (L2) just runs into the kitchen and says "Sh!t the bed is a funny word" I don't know...he was in there with Mom.

Kids swearing is good therapy right?

sorry to hear about your back. I bulged my L5 14 years ago and was down for about 3 months. No surgery, as my surgeon wanted to avoid back surgery at all cost. Seems the studies have shown instant relief with surgery, but the relapse rate is about 5 years on average and you're under a knife again. If you can heal up on your own, you'll be better off.

The big thing you'll have to do is think before you do. Things like squaring your hips up when you lift, keeping what you're lifting straight and so on.. remember not to lift and twist across your body.

Things like shoes will make a difference, maybe a lumbar brace will help too.

word of warning when the pain goes away (and it will) you'll want to jump back into things. Give yourself another week just to be certain.

Sorry for the pain you've gone through, been there myself. But eventually, it heals up and then it's just a matter of thinking out what you're going to do, rather than reflex.
