Hello, I don't post much because I don't need to, you have all my questions answered, so thanks for that :D

I found this bottle in the woods in southeastern WI, it is Red Stripe shaped, but twist off, and has a cool barley and hop marking along the neck, with an Eagle-type crest.
Here are the pics.

There is one more symbol just before the bottle tapers around to the base, that says 12 JL 86. The JL is more like a bent arrow, but if it were letters, it would JL. I can take a pic of that too, if it will help.

Seems to me to be Germanesque because of the eagle. I have no other comments on the subject. It is also probably new because of the screw cap (meaning less than thirty years). Cool bottle though.

I am going out on a limb here, but the 12 JL 86 could be a date stamp: July 12, 1986.

Here is an antique bottle site: http://www.antiquebottles.com/dating.html

It states that screw top bottles are after 1920, which supports the date idea.

Is there a patent number on there? If so, try this site: http://www.bottlebooks.com/patentdater.htm

It might help with your search.

This might have been a "local" microbrew bottle given the amount of money spent on making the detailed design. Contact a couple of older breweries to see if they have any idea.

Good luck in your search. These are the types of distractions that keep me up at night :p

I read your post before I even looked at the photo, and I was going to guess 70's-80's era Genesee, but alas it is not.:(

G. Heileman product makes sense, since I live in La Crosse, home of, you guessed it, Gottleib Heileman and his brewery.

Thanks olllllo

I would imagine it isn't that old. I remember seeing my parents drink shorties when I was a kid, and those bottles look just like it, but I don't recall if the logo was there. I lived all over Wisconsin, anywhere from Milwaukee up to Delta County in the UP. I'm trying to remember what they drank back then. Maybe Old Style?
