I just purchased a used kegerator made out of a 4' long chest freezer that has a 2-tap tower attached to the lid. I'm wanting to move the tower to a differest location so I can get to it from the side of the kegerator instead of the fron due to lack of space in my garage. Moving the tower, obviously, will result in me having a ugly plugged hole (I will take any advice on that task as well) in the middle of the lid. That's what got me thinking about covering the lid to make it more like a bar top. The cheapest idea that I have come up with is to fasten backer board to it and tile the top with ceramic tile, grout it, build in a drip tray, and be done with it. Any other suggestions?

sounds like you have the plan. Surf the Keezer section and you'll find others who have done just that or very similar.
