I'm thinking I may come into a 9 gallon SS pot soon: that would mean I could assemble an AG setup cheap with mostly stuff I already have on hand and give it a shot.

I have a 34 qt rectangular cooler. This seems like a pretty ideal size MLT for 5.5-6 gallon batches in the 1.050-1.060 range.

But will this be too large to get sufficient grainbed depth for smaller amounts of grain, like a 1.038 bitter?

I'm mostly relaxing and not worrying too much. Coolers and C-PVC are cheap, so if I get into AG I could always build a smaller MLT for smaller grain batches.

I'm in the reading everything I can stage of AG/PG.... so far I have seen folks use 34 Q and the 5.5 G rubermaid water cooler size. I opted for the water cooler.
