So, this was my first batch. 5 gallon full boil. Temps good & controlled with a stc-1000. Aerated with o2 wand. I pitched at 5:30 pm yesterday. Anyways, this is what I did wrong. When I went to dump the yeast into my glass carboy, I sprinkled the yeast on the funnel then immediately dumped the wort into the carboy....but the funnel had been sanitized with star san. Did I ruin the yeast?

Doubtful, in my opinion, if you immediately washed the yeast (and star-san) into the fermenter. That would have limited contact time, SS recommends up to 1-2 minutes of contact time to sanitize. May have knocked a few weaker yeasties to their death, but I doubt that you ruined it.

Aside- I'd be curious to better understand the contact time for star-san. E.g. If you spray it on and go immediately, was that pointless? My guess is Yes, but 2 minutes seems like a long time...I had 30 seconds in my head and had been operating based on that.

I wouldn't think so. Plastic having that smooth surface might've negated any appreciable amount from clinging to it.

Not to worry. If that's your worst problem you will have a good beer to drink in a few more weeks. Don't Kevetch. Keep your fermentation temperatures stable and you will be fine.

update: looks like everyone was right. Fermenting going well. About 3/16" of krausen on the surface and about a bubble a minute at 22 hours from pitching! Crisis Averted LOL!
