Was brewing with an extract kit last night and I forked up and added LME and DME immediately after steeping grains instead of reaching boil first. H2O was 170 degrees when extracts were added. Took 25 minutes to get to boil. Proceeded to do 60 min boil with hop additions as normal. Wort seemed fine. After 14 hours of fermenting I have airlock activity.

How bad did I F up? Hot break issues? Foam retention issues? What's the damage.

I'll probably be the best you've ever brewed. Congrats!

Would think about the only issue would be maybe scorching your kettle. As far as the beer goes I would think it would have very little affect on anything

Phew. Thanks for the reassurances!! I may have had a few too many cold ones during my brew night. I guess practice makes perfect, especially when there's a 12 pack of Fat Tire and Friends involved.

Best practice is to watch how much you drink. If you question this see the thread about falling into a boil kettle..... I wait to throw a few back until after the boil, while things are cooling.

Good advice. This was definitely a learning experience. On that note, it's not brew night anymore and it's Friday so time to crack one open. Cheers. :mug:

.... there is no mistake here at all ... especially if you do not have hops in the mix yet. :) I remove my wort from the heat before I add me LME/DME and give everything a really really good stir to make sure everything is dissolved before popping it back on my burner ...

When I used to do extract, I only added the lme or dme in the last few mins of the boil.
