My Star San came today. I have a gallon of distilled water and I plan on pouring a little under 1/4 ounce in it then transferring it to a pot to dip my bottles in.

How should I let them drain? I have a dish drainer that will probably allow me to drain 10-12 at a time. Should I do 10, then take them out of the drainer and set them upright? I don't have a dishwasher nor do I have a spray bottle that I can use right now.

How should I tackle this situation? I'm assuming that even though my drainer isn't sanitized the slowly draining bottles should take care of that. Any suggestions?

They shouldn't be dry when you fill them... I usually use the vinator and then dump out the remaining little bit right before I fill the bottles up but they are definitely wet when I fill them up... The remaining star san essentially turns into yeast nutrient when it's diluted with the beer...

It's the best stuff on earth... but that's just my opinion ;)

Okay, so how about this:

Dip, leave a little in the bottle and set upright. Right before filling do one final slosh and dump out small remaining amount of Star San.

Would that work?

Also, I've had my fermentor covered with blanket to keep out the light. I think I should fill a small cup with Star San solution and dip the spigot down in it before I attach my bottler just in case.

Does this sound like a good plan?

Oh, and thanks for the quick reply!

Yes.

Is your fermenter your bottling bucket?

Regardless yes, I soak the spigot of the bottling bucket before use always...

No real need to soak the bottles w star san, it can be as simple as pouring a couple / few ounces in each bottle...shake and empty. As long as the interior is well coated w/ the star san solution you are good to go. Dont fear the foam.

I use a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket for my sanitizing solution. Just immerse them in there for 30 seconds, fish them out, and then bottle. No need to rinse or worry about the foaminess that is left over. No affect on the finished product.

No, it's a Coopers kit. The bottler attaches to the spigot that's already on the fermentor. I can't really soak the spigot, so I figure I can just bring a cup of Star San up to it and submerge.

Hey, some extra poured out because it came out the little tube that fills the reservoir. Is it okay if it's mixed a little strong?

So 1 oz= 30 mL and for one gallon you use 6 mL or 1/5 of an ounce... you're fine... plus it's really hard to measure that precisely with that side thingee.

You should be good to go.

Good luck!!
