Just when you think youve seen every strange occurance in brewing, something new will come along. i just brewed an extract clone of ommagang's henepin and 16 hrs into fermentation i see what looks like yeast but its in clumps the size of popcorn. it's whirling around in there furiously! i'm a just wonderin' if any of you kind folk have seen this before using wyeast 1214 belgian abby ale. is this normal? what causes this? is it bad? nothin' unusual about this recipe except you're supposed to pitch at 80 F , which i did.

I've seen that when I use safale s-04 yeast. And yeah it's pretty fun to watch it whirling around in there.

I had that with a LondonIII ale yeast. It was insane, looked like a blizzard inside.
