I realized halfway through my boil, that I forgot to make my starter. I have washed s-05 in a snapple bottle. There is a little over 3/4 of an inch of nice white yeast in the bottom...will that be enough to take off? DFH 60 min clone. OG about 166-168 hopefully....5 gallons.

I would use some of your cooled wort to make a starter and pitch it tomorrow morning. As long as everything else is sealed up in a carboy you should be fine.

If you live near a brew store just go buy another pack of yeast because that kind is so cheap. If not I'd say just pitch and aerate well. Should be fine. Ironically I made a DFH60 clone and used that very same yeast. All I did was hydrate and pitch. Took off like crazy. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing

well the site would NOT let me back on for some reason so I went ahead and called the brew store. They said that much yeast would do the job so I pitched it as is.... I do have a packet of s-05 in case it does not take off. Thanks for the quick replys, I wish I had been able to get em lol.

HBT is acting wonky....But since you have washed 05 you should have a higer cell count than if you had a typical tube or smack pack. Although not ideal- I still recommend a starter for harvest yeast if it's been awhile in the fridge just to wake it up. It'll do the job.

I do make starters with the washed yeast REVVY, just slipped my mind this time.....along with taking an OG reading before putting it in the carboy... I must be getting old...... I will say that if what I was looking at was yeast, there is WAY more in this batch than what I would get from a packet of dry yeast.

Walked in just in time to see bubbles coing through the airlock just now. So far so good.
