No dumb questions, I'm suprised.

Hi all,

Great forum and it looks like a bunch of great folks use it. It seems like most of you are in the US.

I'm from the UK, Warrington near Manchester and Liverpool.
I've just ordered my first kit an hope to be brewing real soon. I love sampling guest beers in the local pubs. Most have a few on each week and I buy ales to drink at home.

Hopefuly in a month or two I'l be drinking my own. I have a lot to learn and still don't know what all the "words" mean so please forgive me if my questions seem dumb! I'm sure I'll learn alot from this forum.

It's too bad that Dude wasn't a prick to me on my intro post, so that I wouldn't have gotten sucked into the terrible, terrible place that HBT truly is.

Since 12/30, you've created 20 pages worth of posts. That's some high-quality whoring.

Mine:

Just wanted to say "hi" to folks around here... I'm a newbie homebrewer, actually made my first batch yesterday (seeing the fermentation begin made me very proud). I'm usually not shy about voicing my opinions, but since I'm still almost-a-virgin here, I'll probably be lurking mostly on the sidelines for now... anywho, looks like a great community so far.

What the f*ck was I thinking?

Kind of a random thought here, but how is the weather up in Adams? I am from Pittsfield!

Small world!

Not too bad, barely seen any snow at all, and most mornings have been low 30s at worst. I'll take it!

Found mine.

I'm splitting a 5 gallon extract mix for some experimentation--and I only have a basic set up of two plastic 5 gal buckets, and one glass carboy. I was going to put the half batch of whatever needs to secondary ferment longest in the glass carboy.

I guess my two main questions are is it cool to ferment a 2 1/2 gallon batch in a 5 gallon fermenter? And, which of these two batches will need longer to SECONDARY ferment--Oatmeal Stout or a Vanilla Cream Oatmeal Stout (second one I'm going to add some lactose and vanilla beans, no other differences)? I can probably answer the second question for myself....the vanilla one should take longer, to let those flavors soak in...right?

It was kind of a lame question, but during my search I found many more idiotic posts, LOL!!

I found my firt post int he "intros" forum, but I posted a couple before that. I crapped in a couple of Dude's threads to see if he'd figure out who I was. I can't find those.

Allow myself to introduce.....myself

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I recently purchased the Complete Joy to Homebrewing and ordered my equipment kit from Michigan Brewing Company last night. Hopefully I will be brewing my first batch this weekend or next week!

Does anyone know of any home brew shops in the Richmond, VA area? The only one I know of is in Chester, VA and that is about 35-40 minutes away from me.

What a toolbox..... :D

The good thing is that LHBS is now only 20 min away!

Will oak tannins kill yeast? Being uncertain as how to use oak chips for that oh-so-classic taste, I boiled them for a while along with some hops before straining the water into a Black Rock IPA kit. In primary, there was some light foaming, though not what I'm used to seeing. I racked to secondary after four days and it was completely flat. It doesn't tase sweet like there is any unconverted sugar.
Will oak inhibit fermentation and what is the best way to utilize this tasty adjunct?

Ahh, was I ever that young? And who was the first to reply to my first question? Why it was my sweetheart BeeGee, of course...

:D

Found mine, and in true Sause fashion I took a little less then a month between registering and posting.

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=72

Been doing research on home brewing and most places I check say to go with a two fermenters but most places sell there kits with only one, do you need to rack it into a second? Will not racking it make it not worth doing? Will a one stage taste better than most mass produced beer?

Anyfeed back would be great!!

And spelling mistakes abundant. Nobody else that answered has more than 31 posts.

Who's the longest-tenured of the people who still post here? Sause?

Well TxBrew of course! But besides him BrewerBrewer3401 is the only one that joined before me and posted after the first of Dec. He only has 31 posts though.

And no one but Janx even bothered to welcome you. What a bunch of dicks.

Hey Rhoobarb, welcome to the forum! :rockin:

Back then, no one but Janx was on the forum! Well, sorta. At that time, heck - he was the forum! Now, I don't see him here as often.:( But, man, are there a lot more people on here now! :)

A lot can happen in two years!

I'm pacing myself. Mr. Sirpostsalot.

Edit: Also when I joined we didn't have a General Cats section, tasting section, Comerisal section, Newby section, Intro section. You get my point.
