Basically, my test subject are my fellow employees at the office/work. Previously I have "given away" my beer to those who have shown their interest in drinking my beer. I have had a lot of "that was the best beer Ive ever tasted" and a few of "yeah..that was a good beer" which usually means that they didnt really like it.

My problem is that I spend a ton of time planning reciepies and brewing the best beer I can just to give it away for free at work so I can get someone else opinion. I dont want to do that.

Is there any way to encourage them to pay for their beer? I mentioned selling six-packs and i didnt get any committals for orders or anything. What am I to say...PAY ME!?!

Anybody else have this problem?

You do know it's illegal to sell homebrew right? If I wanted to be recompenstated for brewing (and I don't) I'd just have a donation jar and I wouldn't bring the subject up on a large homebrewing site. :mug:

Don't give it away then. All that matters is you enjoy it, but I'm pretty sure selling is a no no. If you want an opinion enter your beer into a competition, if it's local probably won't cost you much and you will only be giving up a few beers. Or join a home brew club, maybe you will get some homebrew in return.

Then don't. Why does it matter what they think of your beer anyway? If you like it, drink it. If you don't, try a new recipe.

I'm not touching the selling of home brew comment, is there a local home brew club that you could share it there at on of their meetings? That way you are all on the same page and can discuss your likes or what you could change.

Pretty common problem. I usually just trade something. Right now I have a deal with a buddy where he gets beer and I get eggs from his chickens. Sometimes people will bring by some commercial beer and we call it even. The other thing you can do is to come up with some "brewery" merchandise (shirts, hats, stickers, etc) and have them purchase those items. That way you are being compensated but not selling beer....which is technically illegal.

I agree!!.......but a small part of me wonders if anyone really cares. I mean the amount of excise tax that is lost is so small....a few dollars at most. It would cost anyone who cares far more to investigate/prosecute than to just ignore it and move on. But still....don't do it!

If you don't want to give it away, then don't. Nobody tied you up and dragged bottles of it of to work, did they? You voluntarily take it someplace, you're giving it to them.

Selling it to anybody breaks federal and state laws, so you definitely don't want to do that. This is a very serious offense and would get you in very serious trouble. Selling homebrew is illegal in all 50 states.

We don't need to discuss illegal activity any further than this.
