First time brewer here.

Six days. Six long days of resisting the urge to check, to panic, to second guess. Everything went according to plan, fermentation started in 24 hours, steady bubbles for about 3 days, then quiet. I could see the ring of krausen by shining a flashlight from above the bucket. But I just couldn't take it anymore - I had to know.

It took me ten minutes to get the lid off the damn bucket. :-D

And...it looks like beer! Yeasty fermenting beer, but beer. I took a sample and hydrometer reading - it went from 1.055 to 1.022. Then I drank it. And holy crap, it tastes like beer!!

I feel like Tom Hanks in Cast Away. "I HAVE MADE BEER!!!"

My plan is to leave it about another week and a half, take another reading, and if all looks good, bottle.

Now you've been bitten. You'll find yourself dreaming about beer and thinking about the process. You'll be scratching out recipes on napkins at dinner. You are now one of us. You've perform magic most people will never understand--you've made beer!

do yourself a favor and get a 6 + gal carboy or better bottle and stop tanking off that lid.

You have to use a flux capacitor. You did get a flux capacitor with your Ale Pail, right?

NO! Omigod, was I supposed to???

I don't have enough electricity to make it work anyway. And we don't have many thunderstorms and NO trains.

I'm such a failure.

This is funny because I did the exact same thing except maybe I checked it a few times when I did my first brew and it came out excellent but then I bought two 6 gallon carboys so I could watch everything happening and I only use a bucket now for bottling.

Not enough. There's never enough...

If you don't have enough plutonium, I believe there is a mod that allows you to use garbage instead.

Great for two reasons:
-doesn't require the train upgrade
-don't need to rip off terrorists with pinball machine parts

Congrats, your in-process beer is looking very nice. Welcome to home brewing, you are now past pre-initiation. Once you enjoy that first beer made with your own hands, you'll be officially in the club.

Welcome friend.
