I bring you the next level of idiocy in sunglasses.

I payed $150 for a pair of Ray Bans last year and that was stretching for me. But I look after them, whereas all the $20 pairs of glasses I used to own (maybe a dozen over the years) lasted less than a year and usually got lost. So there's something to the "you look after something more if you pay more for it" mantra... but $4000 for sunglasses is just insane.

I spent the extra $100.00 to get the transition lenses for my prescription glasses. Total bill $650.00. These will last me between 4 and 6 years. Basically until I get tired of the style. My first 2 cars cost less hen $4000.

I paid $300 to get prescription polarizing glasses for motorcycling.

$4,000 and no bling? They should toss in a couple rhinestones for that much cash.

I also love Oakley and their company in general. I'm pretty all military has at least one nice pair of half-jackets (or full jackets) from deployment. And don't get me started on Oakley's amazing discount they give to all active duty (basically certain military spec items at cost). I will personally only buy Oakley....

But for 4,000 you got to be f'n kidding me. I was expecting a HD quality micro LED screen in the lens... even a amazing upgrade of the thumps (mp3 glasses) or perhaps the ability to see what you want to see; but I guess if you can afford 4,000 for glasses you can probably afford to see what you want to see when you want to.....

Well, I wouldn't pay it. But to me, it is no more foolish than someone buying a new Corvette/Porshe/BMW when you can get good reliable transportation for less than 1/2 of the cost. I would guess that the same mentality pushes that purchase, or maybe other shortcomings. - Dwain

that's really an unfair comparison...
drive a Prius and an M3 back to back and tell me which one you would rather keep driving. ;) unlike sunglasses, there is a big difference between a commuter car and an enthusiast car that is actually enjoyable or downright fun to drive.

and besides, M3's get better gas mileage. :rockin:

It's all about where you are. While 4K to most of is a big deal, if you're Bill Gates, it's chump change. And I'll probably never know, but there might be the same feeling of difference in the Oakley vs. others as you think there is in the Prius vs. M3. The 2010 M3 lists for 58K and is 14/20 MPG. I bought my wife a '98 Z3 when they came out with the 2.8, it ran and drove like who'd a thought it. We kept it a couple of years, sold it and bought a pick up, so go figure. - Dwain
