Hey guys quick question


I'm unsure if my hydrometer is off

I've recently tried to figure out why my all grain efficiency is so far off (10 points low) pre boil

So I checked my hydrometer in room temp water and it read .0994?

So in checking my current batches I would have to increase my gravity ready by 3 notches right?

Any input would be great

You should test it in distilled water and get it to the temp that your hydrometer is calibrated to. If that still gives you a reading of .0994 you will add .006 to any reading that you get.

The calibration temperature for your hydrometer is printed on the card that is inside the hydrometer.

Your SG can be read directly if the sample is at 60°F. When the sample is near the calibration temperature a correction chart can be used.

Accuracy of the correction will be greater when the sample is nearer the calibration temperature. Correction for a 15°F difference will be more accurate than the correction for a 40°F difference.

Yes, if it's a 60°F/60°F hydrometer. If its a 20 °C/20°C hydrometer it should be read at 20 °C.
