Various ways to do it but i use initial reading minus the last reading divided by 7.93 = %abv So yours is 1101 - 998 = 103 103 divided by 7.93 = 12.98% ABV It'll take a bit of aging to mellow before it tastes really good i'd have thought!

And to take a hydrometer reading you need some sort of cylinder (I use the actual plastic container the hydrometer came in) that way it will float upright
