There are individuals that win National competitions, against/with commercially produced beers and win. So, the idea of a home brewer not being able to brew "great beers", is just ridiculous. Period. Guys like Jamil and John started out as home brewers, and are still considered gurus when it comes to beer and ales.
Winning a competition didn't fan my ego at all, it really humbled me when I considered the amount of meticulous steps that have to be made to consistently produce great beers, over and over. Even though I don't drink BMC beers, they have my ultimate respect, as producing lighter style beers millions of gallons in a row, exactly the same, decade after decade, takes incredible dedication and talent.
