Greetings,
I figured as I have decided not to lurk anymore, I might as well post an Introduction. I have been brewing since 2005 when I discovered that it is a cool hobby and thought it was cheaper... boy was I wrong hahaha! all joking aside my brewing endeavors suffered a huge setback when I got married and my wife told me I could no longer boil wort in the apartment due to not liking the abundance of great smells in the small apartment.
Now I own my home and have gotten a large 2 burner camping stove which boils a pot much better than I could hope (having a glass top stove at 5280' sure sucks for boiling 3+ gallons). SO my brewing endeavors are back in motion.
Right now I have a nice Nutty Brown 8 days into fermentation and just about to move into bottles (another first for me). Previously I kegged all my batches but I realized how much of a pain it is to run down CO2 every time I ran out and a bit expensive too! So while bottling is more effort... it is a bit more of an escape from the family life and I am looking forward to it!
I think I have managed to get a plan in place for doing 2.5 gallon all grain batches which a quick inexpensive move to 5 gallons. I plan to use my 5gal (to the top) pot until I can get bigger, for 2.5 gallon batches, using a bottling bucket and a vegetable steamer for a mash tun/lauter (quickly moving to a cooler later), this should allow me to do all grain in small batches to learn from without much expense or risk.
Well I am sure I will enjoy it here. Time for some bier!
