I'm a first time kegger and not all my equip is in yet. I have keg I really need to fill today. I have dis/connects and a hand charger and want to purge the air out of it before letting it condition with sugar. Can I hook up the hand charger and push some C02 and then remove the disconnect and press down the gas valve to purge without spraying beer everywhere?

Yeah after a quick google I don't think I have one on my keg. I'll just have to try to be gentle with the poppit. Or bite the bullet and wait, but if I don't clear a carboy before tomorrow I have to push back a new batch two weeks :(

Not all corny lids have a pressure dump.

I've never seen a corny lid without a pressure relief, although I have seen some that don't have a the ability to do a pull test (i.e. manually release the pressure). I would think that a pressure relief would be a requirement, but I haven't seen that many cornies that i can make a definitive statement on it.

Also, be careful purging a closed tank with one of those cartridge CO2 chargers, there's no pressure regulation on those. If you really don't have a pressure relief you could rupture your disconnect, or the keg, if you overpressure it.
