Are home brews usually not as clear or clean as store bought beer? I've made two IPA batches and they were not as clear. Is that normal? Or am I just messing up somewhere? I'm still new to all of this

store-bought beers are filtered to make them clearer and cleaner. me: i like my beers more european, which is with more yeast

So it's normal? It didnt come out that clouded it was alright a dark copper color but I couldn't see through it that clearly. I prim ferm for 2 weeks and dry hoped/sec. Ferm for 12 days, was that not long enough for sediment to drop out?

What is your recipe and process.. many here make very clear beer using time tested techniques. I am by far not the most experienced but have had very good results with a number of brews. There is no reason why your beer can't be what you want it to be. What are you looking to make it be?

Well I would like to make it as clear as possible. I do all grain and go through all the normal steps , mash boil ferm bottle. But is there something special I need to do or add for a clearer beer? And does that affect taste

do you add irish moss or whirlfloc tablets? either of those will help clear the beer really well without adding any flavor

There's a bunch of fining ingredients you can add like Irish moss, gelatin, isinglass ( not all in the same batch of course). Also, look up cold crashing.

As far as filtering, I'd forget about trying that.

Yeah I used a whirlfloc tab. And yeah I've heard that "cold crashing" don't know what it is yet but I'll look into it . Maybe I'm just being to critical on myself , I've only done 3 batches (all grain) and all original recipes , I think I'm just being to hard on myself , still have a lot to learn haha

Did the beers get more hazy after you chilled them? If so, you have chill haze, which should clear up if you leave the beer in the refrigerator for 2 to 4 weeks.

Check out the link to my belgian brother golden strong in the recipes under my username. Whirlfloc tab in the boil and refrigerated for a month in bottles :) follow that base for the recipe for clear beer without filtering!

Chill haze yeah could be , I put it in the fridge then drank it like a hour later , woops, and yeah pored it all out;( well now I know thanks a lot, so much to learn but I love it

A little food for thought;I use a high flocculation yeast,so it settles out well in 3-4 weeks it usually takes to reach FG & clean up & settle out to the bottom.
Rack to bottling bucket & prime as carefully as is possible to avoid most or all of the trub in the bottom of primary. Leave bottles at least 3 weeks at room temp (70ishF is best). Then, into the fridge for 5-6 days. That's the short version of how I do it to get crystal clear beer. It also has to do with brewing techniques, but that's another thing to read up on.

Yeah ok thanks I will remember that , thanks. It's just so hard to wait and not crack one open haha. But I'm sure I'll get better at that the more I brew
