Hello I just have a question, a very simple one. Can i fill a sankey keg just as an ordinary keg? and if so how should i do it, or any tips. Thank you!

take out the stem and rack like you would to a corny keg. there is a snap ring that holds the diptube/stem in place, get the ring out, and it will come right out (its keyed).

Whoa there!

Step one: MAKE SURE THERE IS NO PRESSURE IN THE KEG!

Step two: MAKE FOR DAMN SURE THERE IS NO PRESSURE IN THE KEG!

Step three: JAM A SCREWDRIVER OR SOMETHING IN THE OPENING TO HOLD THE BALL DOWN TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NO PRESSURE IN THE KEG!

then and ONLY THEN, proceed with removing the stem.

we just don't want you to get hurt, if there is still pressure in the keg the sankey spear could become a real spear. :D

press down on the ball with the the back of screwdriver, or rounded part of a wrench, so you don't f-up the rubber seal

4) don't put face directly above keg when pressing down ball with screwdriver unless you want a blast of stale BMC (or whatever type of keg you obtained) all over your face ............

And make sure the valve is pointing away from you. I learned this the hard way--nothing like a few pints of really nasty old BMC sprayed into your eyes to teach you a lesson.:cross:

And to make sure you dont get squirted -- LAY THE KEG DOWN ON IT'S SIDE!

Once the valve is pointing sideways (and not towards anything that might get damaged) you can de-pressurize.

While the above methods of releasing pressure from a sankey keg work fine, there is an easier way if you have a sankey coupler. Since you're wanting to put homebrew into a sankey, I'm going to guess that you probably have a coupler so that you can serve said homebrew. If that's the case, put a length of beer line on the coupler, hold the other end in a bucket or down a drain, and attach the coupler. And voila, the stale beer and any pressure will be released in a safe and controlled manner without any mess.

Step one is to chill the beer to serving temp. Make sure the beer line is either attached to a CLOSED faucet, or capped, then connect the gas line to your tank and attach the coupler. Decide on a carbonation level and set the pressure accordingly. Here's a handy carbonation chart-
You can also purge the keg by pulling the pressure release valve on the coupler. In ~10 or so days you should have perfectly carbed beer. There are faster ways to force carb beer, but the set and forget method I just described is easy and works perfectly every time.
