Hello All,
I am pretty new to brewing and I have been messing around with a few recipes I would like to make. Some of the recopies include late additions of LME or DME and I was wondering how to deal with converting the recipe to All Grain. I know the OG of the wort effects the IBUs pulled from the hops and the amount of hops effects the flavor. I also know the boil time has an effect on the final color. So do I just add more hops upfront to make up for the higher starting OG and deal with the color difference or can you split the wort after the mash to add some late in the boil or is there no way to convert it to all grain and I need to get a can of LME?

Add the equivlent amount of grain to the mash. The LME is added to flameout to avoid adding too much color, as LME is already too dark from its processing. This isnt an issue if you are all grain. Just boil 60min (90min if pils is your base malt, or if you just feel like it.)

The recipe should list the intended IBUs. Use a calculator to figure out how much hops you need, given the hops you have. Get used to doing this, as the AA of a strain of hops will change from harvest to harvest, 1oz of Chinook at 60minutes doesnt tell you much.
