I don't mean just brewing. It just seems like everyday I am spending at least an hour doing something brewing related. It might be general cleaning, picking hops, racking into kegs, making yeast starters, etc... Obviously I brew a lot, a couple of times a month. I just wondered how much time most of you spend on this wonderful hobby/obsession.:mug:

Depends on who you ask. SWMBO would say way too much! I'd say not enough. This hobby/passion helps me relax. After a busy day at the firehouse, its nice to go down do the basement/brewery and lose myself in cleaning/brewing/kegging/whatever.
Those activities and being on here a couple hours a day, and I've reached my zen!

Hey Mongo.... I'm a fireman here in SoCal! We work 24 hour shifts and pretty much everyday off I am doing something brewing related. Not to mention being on HBT at the station:D

I figured out that I spend about 7-10 minutes of time around the house counting brew day and preparing things such as yeast. Add in trips to the LHBS, time spent building fermenters, kegerators, etc...

However, it is an awesome hobby and I try to look at it differently--you have fun doing all the work and the beer at the end is a major bonus :mug:

Every other Saturday or Sunday I brew. Every other Saturday/Sunday I keg/clean kegs. Besides making a starter (20 minutes tops), that's about it. My rig and system are pretty much where I want them (yeah right, I'm always thinking about adding something.......). So, if you don't count drinking, it really doesn't take too much time away from the family/SWMBO, just a couple of hours a weekend.

Not nearly enough unless you consider "thinking" about homebrewing as time spent. Then it would be nearly every waking moment!

We work a Berkley schedule (24on/24off/24on/24off/24on/96off), so lots of brewing related time available...but we've got a 2 year old and a 4 mo old. Luckilly they have an overlapping nap time of 2-3 hours. And Wednesdays the go to daycare wether I work or not!...needless to say, a few vacation days on wednesdays peppered throughout the year.

Stay safe brother, and happy brewing!

I sleep 6 hours a night. So subtract 42 hours. Maybe an hour a day I actually have to work away from my desk at work. So that's another 5. 2 hours and 20 minutes for showering and pooping. 5 minutes every 2 weeks for sex (ok, maybe 30 minutes) And Vintage baseball takes about 6 hours a week of my time during the summer.

The rest is brewing related.

I think I am averaging 8hrs a week. Brewing is 5-6 (all grain) Plus, the bottling and cleanup etc... This is including wine making as well.

You actually should count most of this too. I'm certain you dream about recipes and procedures, if you have the same brain as the rest of us.

Between reading/researching/planning/calculating/buying/ordering/dreaming of the ultimate homebrewing and dispensing set up it eats up at least 3 hours a day!

Thats not even including brew days and cleaning up/preping equipment. I brew roughly twice a month and spend a few hours each week cleaning/preping

Closer to an obsession than a hobby for me. I brew or am tinkering with my setup or transferring brews pretty much every weekend:drunk:

Probably a couple hours a day when you calculate in thinking about it, writing about it, etc. So around 14 hours a week. On weeks I brew it's probably twice that.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who is constantly thinking of recipes, equipment tweaks, cleaning, etc., in addition to actual brew time. And of course there's waaaay too much time haunting HBT. Thank goodness SWMBO is encouraging!
