I am building an outbuilding soon for working on cars/painting, small gym, and some lawn equipment storage/tool storage. I am trying to plan on how much space I will need to allocate for brewing if I want to move myself to a dedicated space instead of futzing about in a small kitchen with a electric glass top range that I constantly worry about breaking :p

I was thinking for washing station, brewing station, and small temperature controlled room/closet, about 20 feet by 15 feet?

What do you guys think, or what would you recommend space-wise?

If it's organized and planned well, 300ft2 should be more than enough for a proper homebrewery. Don't forget lots of shelving for storage.

It's hard to give you any feedback without understanding what kind of brewing set-up you are looking to build. I can tell you that 20x15 for what I do (5 gallon BIAB) can be done in a space significantly smaller than 20x15. And that includes the chest freezer fermentation cabinet, the small kegerator I use and equipment storage. My advice to you would be to draw something up with dimensions within the space you are considering to see how it comes out.

That sounds like it would be adequate. I brew on my porch which is about 15 x 15 (I am too lazy to go measure more accurately) There is a table and couch in there taking up about a third of the space and I still have plenty. I have a sink, 3 tier gravity stand and shelving and stacks of buckets.

If you are making this part of the car and lawn equipment storage I would be sure to separate it totally. I think I would have a solid wall between the brew room and the rest and a separate entrance. Too dirty on the other side.. Especially the gym. ;)

If you can afford the space Go for it. You'll probably out grow it if you go smaller (cause you don't think you'll need it). You're going to end up with lots of stuff (bottles etc). Why revert to storing that stuff outside of you brew room
