Hi Guys,

Next week I am going to beef up a Coopers Draught kit with grains (1lbs Maris Otter and some Quaker Oats) 2lbs of spraymalt light and some hops (Cascade/Saaz)

My question here is exactly about the quantity of the last 2, I am planning to do the wort in about 2 gallons of water and my idea of hops is this:

Bittering:

.5 Cascade 60min

Flavouring
.5 Cascade 20 min

Finishing
1.5 Saaz 5 min

What do you think? Suggestions are welcome.

Cheers

Personally I would switch it. Use 1 oz saaz for bittering and use the cascade for the other additions. Saaz is better as a bittering hop and cascade is better for aroma and flavor in my opinion.

thanks for your suggestion. how about the quantity i have indicated are they good amount?

I would do 1 oz saaz for bittering. .5 cascade at 20 min and .5 cascade at 5. This would get you to a pretty good pale ale.

I kind of disagree and would say both of them are classic finishing hops - cascade for American ales, and Saaz for continental styles especially pilsners. I think this one is a preference thing depending on what you're going for.

I guess I never have tried saaz as a finishing hop maybe I should try it. I always thought it was pretty much for bittering
