I just racked to the secondary today and I racked on top of 5 lbs of strawberries and half a pound of honey. Anyone know about how much this might add to my ABV? Currently it's sitting at about 5.5%. It's going to sit in the secondary for a week and then be bottled.

Well, firstly I don't think the strawberries and honey are going to give it much of a sweet flavor, if that's what you're intending.
As for the ABV, the only thing I can suggest is take the FG of it and see what it says :drunk:

but won't the fg be thrown off by the addition of more sugars in the secondary?

Really all I'm trying to get is a strawberry aftertaste. I did the same thing with blood oranges on my last batch minus the honey and it came out great.

Hmm good point. I'm not sure...maybe take a gravity reading now? I'm sure there's some kind of calculator to account how much fermentable sugars you added in the secondary, unfortunately I don't know the answer there xP sorry

Just and idea I just got, for future use. I hope this makes sense, I think I make it sound very confusing..

Like if your OG was say 1.060 and after primary it's 1.020 prior to adding sugar. Then once the sugar is added take another reading, maybe it will be like 1.035 or something, then when it's done fermenting and it's down to like 1.015 then use the two differences added together for the actual overall gravity.

Unless they were freeze-dried, the berries have a non-negligible volume of water.:)

wow did that kick up fermentation big time. Took the kid to the skate park and just happened to look at the fermenter to see foam coming out the top of the air lock. So in a pinch I took my racking cane and put it in the seal where the airlock goes and partially filled up a coffee can with some water and sanitizer and ran the tube to the bottom of the sanitizer. Not only is it pushing foam through there but there are actual strawberry chunks coming through too. lol

LOL, so one lesson learned. Just because the activity in the drain tube seems to have ceased does not mean that it would be a good time to go ahead and put the airlock back on. As soon as I pulled the drain tube out the carboy acted like a strawberry volcano spewing strawberries and strawberry sludge out at me and the wall. Think maybe I'll wait a day or two before putting the airlock back on lol.

Hmm.... might just be a good name for this batch. Strawberry volcano wheat beer.
