I'm wondering because I recently saw a news article where the owner of a brewery claimed that graff is from the 19th century.

Here's the quote:

"Thomas is also a big fan of graff cider, an old-style American hopped cider from the mid 1800s. He hopes to market this product by next year. “It’s an amazing beverage and will blow beer drinkers’ minds!” he says."

Here's the article: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/oct/26/julian-cider-is-for-grown-ups/

Is this guy full of it or what?

He's full of it. Stephen King created the drink in the gunslinger series, THEN Brandon O created the recipe for it on here, he was the first one to pibically attempt to come up with a drink based on Kings idea. You can see the genesis if it develop on her.

If you google it, there 1 yahoo answers question that got closed before it got answered sense noone heard of it, and 1 thread referencing back to homebrewtalk.com and the original thread here on HBT, in someone's beerblog.

But we get to claim it as our own.

Now of course if Thomas came from the Stephen King universe maybe he can claim it, but it looks to be someone is ripping off Brandon, and going commercial with it.

Well, he is right, there is a tradition of hopped ciders, but I can't find any reference to them being called graff.

Hell, Stephen King doesn't even have any claim on brandon's graff, in the books he called it "graf".

I sent them an email asking about traditional graff history, just to see what they come up with.

I don't know about any of this, I do know my batch I have going right now REEKS like sulphur out of the airlock!!! My wife was giving me some funny looks until she reralized it wasn't me lol.
