how long can a gas line be?

So I'm working on a keezer design to present to the SWMBO, and I'm trying to work out some details.
One of the issues I see is the CO2 bottle... I'm pretty sure having the tank sitting out will annoy her, so I'm thinking about leaving the tank in the basement and running the gas line up through the floor.

Is this possible? Is it a good idea?

Gas line length shouldn't be an issue as long as there are no leaks. Just have to waste a tiny bit more CO2 to flush all the room air out of the line.
