My plan is to purchase a 30l water boiler and change it into a mash tun, but is the tap difficult to remove? Would I even need to?
Are you referring to the pressure relief valve? if so they are threaded in, and easy to unscrew with pipe wrench, or pump pliers. A lot of water boilers/heaters also have an anode screwed into them, to prevent rusting. It looks like a plug. These are generally magnesium, so I would also remove this and maybe use this hole for thermometer or something, or just plug it.
If you are referring to the drain valve, they are also threaded in and easy to remove, same way with pipe wrench/pliers.
