Four years ago I started brewing. Before I started brewing I would buy maybe 3-4 cases of beer a year, today I buy about the same amount but spend 4x the money. Before I started brewing I had a job making 70K+/year today I make 28K as a brewery assistant. If you like your life please stay away from brewing or be warned you may be me in a few years driving 4 hours a day to make less than half what you were making driving 15 minutes.

I thought this would end with you saying that your happier now though or something. If its so bad why dont you just go back to your career and homebrew as a hobby still. Debby downer!

I can see this hobby having an effect on some peoples life choices, relax don't worry do what thehopguy said.

I love homebrewing as much as I love drinking my beer. And my wife is pushing me to open a brewery so I can do what I love. A couple of years ago I was offered a chance to take over as brewer at a brewpub, but realized that I would be sacrificing not only half my income but the freedom to brew what and when I want with no constraints. I'll keep homebrewing.

I guess I wasn't clear about me being very happy with my new career choice. OK other than the commute :)

came across clear to me - tongue in cheek -
obviously brewing did NOT ruin your life...

although for me, that financial hit would be difficult to swallow.

LOL I still am a homebrewer. If your in Toronto Ontario tomorrow head down to Amsterdam brewing. I'll be there making an as of yet undetermined beer and my first mead :)
