We don't let our kids eat ketchup with a spoon. "It's for dipping!" But they'll eat the crap out of tomato soup!
I’m pretty sure ketchup has a lot more sugar than tomato soup.

a serving of campbells tomato soup has 20g of carbs in 1/2 cup
heinz ketchup is 5g in 1tbsp, skim milk 13g a cup
to make 1/2 cup of soup, let's say 1/2n1/2 ketchup to milk
ketchup 5g x 4tbsp = 20g in 1/4 cup, 3 1/4 g in 1/4 cup milk = 23 1/4g in our "soup"
not A LOT more, only a little
