My wife is about to go out with a friend, and I have this Munton's dark extract to use up, plus I have DME on hand, a couple of specialty grains, i.e. there'd be no problem throwing a recipe together, but I have no hops!!

Is there anything I might have on hand, as a basic grocery staple, that I could use for bittering? Or should I just give up this quixotic quest and go play video games instead???

You might try using some tea like a Celestial Seasonings. It would provide an interesting contrast to the malt depending on what flavor you have.

Celestial Seasonings "Bengal Spice" tea, or "Apple Cinnamon Spice" tea would be interesting.

1/2 Tbs Rosemary, if you have light extract and belgen yeast and at flame out the zest of a lime or orange. You could do a 20 min. Boil too.
