Grains are cracked, water is filtered, I'm good to go for a 6:00am session!

Any comments on this?

Total Grain Weight: 16.00 lb
----------------------------
Name Description Step Temp Step Time
Mash In Add 5.00 gal of water at 169.0 F 154.0 F 60 min

I keg 5 gal, and either use a mini keg of bottle the rest.

$9.54 for the 15lbs Marris Otter
$1.25 for the Crystal 20
$3.00 for the hops
$2.00 for the yeast (6.00 / 3 batches or more)
$1.00 for water salts / Irish Moss / Etc...
$3.00 Propane
--------------------------
$19.79 total / 6.5 gal = $3.29 per gallon

Not bad for what should be a 6.5% ABV beer!
Plus, I'm getting better efficiency than 70%,more like 75% to 80%.

Oh well, off to bed so I can get up early....

Looks very good to me, looks like a real solid IPA. You going to dry hop it?

*taps Bird on shoulder*

*points to thread title*

Psst, I think he's going for an "Extra Special" or "Strong Bitter".

Whadya think?

;)

I don't like the Centennial addition, but then I like Special Bitters...

Touche Cheyco!!!:D

I just love being smarta$$ed back with my own smarta$$edness!

It could still be an Extra Special Bitter, heh...:drunk:

American ESB?
Why not? I'm not much of a hop head but my LBS sold me on trying the centenial hops. I usally use cascade.

I want to simplify my grain bill and start using different hops, and I think the marris otter /crystal 20 grain bill will allow this.

The dry english yeast, WLP007, is also pretty clean, and a overall good performer.

I'm also dialing in my newly made 60 quart MLT.

Thanks!

Just collected 9 gallons into the boiler at 1.055, this gives me 82% efficiency according to Beer Smith!

Single batch sparge with a hose braid manifold rocks!

Centennial has less nose than Cascades and isn't as spicy, that will let the Fuggles come through more. The higher AA will increase the IBU a bit.

All Done by noon!

6.6 gallons of 1.065 wort
Beer Smith gives me 71%, and I planned on 70%
Best part is that it took only 4.5 hours from setup to pitch, including clean up!
(Don't ever think about skipping clean up, SWMBO will NOT be pleased....)
