A friend of mine is a plumber, so hopefully he can help me out :ban: Did the heating element come with the brass boss? Also, do you reckon it's suited as a boiler or just a hot water tank? Thanks

No, the brass boss was a seperate item. Any decent plumbers merchant can supply the items required. Don't forget the large fibrewasher.

I use mine for heating the sparge water rather than boiling the wort.. If I was going to do a prolonged wort boil I think I'd mabye want a better bucket. The one I'm using at present is a fermenting/bottling bin so it is not designed for heat.

The boss and surround doesn't get any hotter then the fluid due to heat transfer.
The boss is flat and the bin is convex so some distortion takes place when fitting it.

I have thought of actually fitting the element into the lid rather tan the bin it's self.

There's no thermostat (I bypassed it) but that's not a problem. I just turn it off when it's hit sparge temp.
