Good job, man. I need to get off my butt and make one.

hope that's CPVC and not PVC, because PVC will melt in the heat

I spent the entire $16 on the stainless Insinkerator at HD and went cheap with 88¢ a dozen binder clips at Wally World

fwiw, there have been multitudes of straight PVC spiders shown off here on HBT that melted and dropped into the BK on first use...

Cheers!

That would be very hard to do unless it's directly in the wort. The distortion temp of pvc is 198 F. if your hop spider is inches above the wort, should not be a problem.

I am not saying that it can happen, just that you would have to try really hard. I make PVC Bows and to distort the schedule 40 pvc pipe under pressure takes a heatgun at 1112 F several minutes to distort. The pipe used to make this hop spiders is alot thicker than schedule 40.

Like I said, "it can happen but you have to try really hard" I've used mine mulitple times and it is not even slightly malleable.

I kinda doubt any of the multitude that had that happen was "trying very hard" to have the PVC fail. How hot is the steaming vapor above the wort in a boil kettle?

Not trying to dissuade anyone per se, just warning that this paradigm does not always work out well...

Cheers!
