Has anyone ever brewed with equipment they made themselves? Obviously there are some specialized brewing tools that need to be purchased, but I'm pretty handy so if I can save a few bucks and earn a little pride by making some of my own equipment I'd love to.

I would love to make a wort chiller myself for when spring finally shows itself. Right now I can just run out and throw the pot in the snow for a bit.

A immersion wort chiller is easy to make. I just made one yesterday. It's just copper tubing, vinyl tubing, hose clamps and a faucet adapter.

I bought a book called "Brew Ware -- How to Find, Adapt, & Build Homebrewing Equipment" by Karl Lutzen & Mark Stevens off amazon.com.

Also made a wort chiller, was really easy even for this plumbing know-nothing. By jiminy, but it works good!

Check the projects under "equipment" here. Google homebrewing gear.

There are TONS of projects out there. I am working on a keggle, a heatstick and a brewstand, I just tested the MLT I made.

Wow!! You have all been extremely helpful, and fast!!! I am going to check out "Brew Ware", and it does look pretty easy to make a wort chiller. Thank you all so much!
