homebrew rash

Hi all,

First post but been watching and reading for a while.

Started back into hb after a long time out due to ability to afford a keg kit.

Man is that easier than bottling? Lol

I digress. Anyways a few very good kegs in I had one brew that seemed odd. It was still fermenting 7 days after my usuals would end (assumed by bubbling) yet the fg had been reach at 1.012.

So I keg it but then had problems force carbonating it. Just wouldn't get bubbles even though it was accepting the gas. Took a week longer to carbonate than my others too.

Now for the sob story. I got a rash on a fair amount of my body. Yeh yeh I know. Dirty girls, fleas, etc etc. I can safely rule them all out.

So I leave the keg for a week to drink others anyway but came back to it. Rash was clearing but now worse than ever.

I'm not looking for medical tips or to be told to see my GP. We all know us men will do it eventually on our death bed.

I googled homebrew rash and found very little. Because this brew (that I have done exactly the same before and enjoyed) caused so many unexpected things I am blaming it. I've drank 1/2 the keg and the rest will be... (wait for it) left till rash clears and then reconsumed.

Just wanted to say hi and give my tail that has given me very itchy arms, legs, chest, arse and dangle berries.

Sounds like hives and an allergic reaction. This is a total guess on my part, but you could have mold or some kind of fungus in that batch that's setting you off. Or maybe some other contaminant got in there.

A lot of "allergies" that cause hives start with stress. I was so bad with allergic reactions to the outside cutting the grass I built a robot lawnmower with video feed and wheelchair motors.
The stress cleared up, the allergies disappeared. Toy-robo-Mower long gone now.
Now the stress is back, guess what? mowing yesterday My feet swole up and turned red, I have hives all over.

For you, I suspect it maybe a yeast-ingredients allergy, One thing to note, in my personal notes, homebrew is Cleaner and healthier than the big name stuff they put preservatives into the stop the "in bottle-in can ferment". Homebrew does make me fart more. Meaning more active yeasts like yogurt.

Change your recipe and do brew something else you like. I mean like I have met some really vampirish blood sucking women in my life, but I ain't converted to the "other sex yet". As a matter of fact I am married to my best buddy, who happens to be a wonderful woman.

On a side note? I got "scabies in the 70s" from resting my elbows on a cushioned bar (no woman or them other things involved). It gets up the insides of your arms, your legs, buddies I know also got it off the beach in Florida. As a old biker, I have been around lots of people who thought back then it was "cool to not take baths and wear your Harley oil soaked blue jeans for weeks", not me. Come to think of it, most them are dead now.

want to open this back up, i was in the er for a severe reaction, eye closed throat swollen type stuff. the only new thing i touched was dme, never used it before, and a different pumpkin ale, i have had others and had pumpkin pie before so could it be dme. i do drink a lot of beer and brew ag so i dont know.
