So I'm going on vacation to sit on the beach and play in the oil spill......just kidding I don't think yet it's hit PBC.

I plan on taking me some homebrews........

Should I have a problem?

Just curious how well homebrew travels and how to avoid issues.:rockin:

Are you taking a corny or bottles? I think the main issue is rousing sediment, in the bottles this could take quite a long time to clear and so after you arrive your going to need to let them settle for 1/2 days. However with a corny it should be much faster.

I'm travelling this weekend w/ a corny keg. I jumped the beer to a clean keg as per Yooper's instructions and hope to have left most of the sediment behind.

neat idea... did you just use a siphon to transfer? how did you "re-carb" if at all?

I'd think about filling some plastic pop bottles (or beer bottles) to carry your beer in. Check with local laws regarding consumption of alcohol on public beach.

I purged the clean keg w/ CO2 and set it to approximately 5psi after getting the lid to seal. I connected the two kegs via liquid disconnects and ran the keg w/ the beer in it at approximately 15psi and made the connection. Every so often I opened the relief valve of the second keg to vent and allow the flow of beer. After all done, most of the sediment was left behind in the first keg.

You know, I'm having a hard time dealing with this issue too. This summer I'm going to Destin with la familia and I don't know exactly how I should tap/keep keg cold while there.

Where is the link to where Yoop is talking about racking from one keg to another?

Thanks,
J

how I should tap/keep keg cold while there.

You could tap it using a party style (flexible) tap and then in order to keep cold all you need is a bucket/large pot to put the keg in and fill with ice water. As the corny pulls beer from the bottom of the keg you only need to have the last 8 or 10 inches submerged in the ice water.

Yeah, I was planning on using a cobra tap, but I was more worried about keeping the keg cold for days...that could take a lot of ice. Perhaps, I could take a round 2.5 or 3 gallons whichever they are (mash tun type cooler) which will insulate much better than a plain ol bucket.

All great ideas, well sad part is I'm just getting into Corny business......so right now I'm a bottles guy and the trip is in a few days........

So I know bottles on beach bad.......I plan to some plastic drinking mugs or something. I also do alot of water bottles being filled with beer........

Question is really about the transporting and how long have to wait to crack one once I get to destination.

Thanks. So right now I'll keep a few cool on ice on trip........keep rest in a divided box. Once get on site I'll have a few that stayed cool to keep yeasties stuck to bottom and once thru those perhaps the ones in that traveled in the box will be cold and ready to go..........

+1 on all this. Then you just need something like this:

and 3ish cartridges to push a fully carbed beer.

I know this may not be the "best solution" to this but I am really considering going with the 5L mini kegs for such events. 2 will hold plenty of beer, can be gravity powered, and kept in a cooler with ice. The advantage to this set up is speed and equipment value. If something happens to a mini keg you are out 12 bucks...

Yeah, they sell that charger on Amazon for $19.

I thought about getting one of those bad boys, but I don't really feel like spending the extra money. Also, considering the keg will probably be in the house somewhere, a Co2 tank won't be that big of an issue.

Straight punch to the face!

I wish I had a rolling kegerator or at least a jockey box, but right now, those things just don't fit into the budget. For now, it's gonna be a cobra tap with a bucket of ice.

That one started out with cobra taps and a little CO2 injector. Then, I added a paintball bottle, adapter and single gauge regulator. Finally, I added the tower and a holder for the paintball bottle.

Baby steps...

Yep, that's how most epic things come to be. That's a sweet setup you've got there. Is that a jockey box, or do you have a couple of 3 gallon kegs in there?

What state is homebrew illegal in btw?

I have bottles in my hotel room in fridge.......I'll use mugs for the balcony and pool area. For geach I'll order one the drinks from the hotel's beach bar then refill it as I need. For speed I'll keep a six pack of water bottles(minus water + beer).

Next time I'll hopefully be kegging so I'll take a keg or perhaps build that portable mini keg system but tower sticks out to much.........

It went well. I just used one of my large insulated coffee mugs and drank my beer the entire vacation..........

You know drinking beer from plastic cups is illegal too!!! :D j/k...I never do it. I either bring some along or buy new ones.

I'd open up some of your bottled stuff and pour it into 2 liter soda bottles (minus the sediment). Mush easier...plus you can toss the bottles when emptied...
